Ebissé started watching HBO's acclaimed series Watchmen when it came out mid October of last year and was completely blown away. With no prior knowledge regarding the source material, she dived into the series completely clueless and found it to be literally and figuratively otherworldly!
So she went on twitter to vent/discuss and only a handful of people on her TL happened to watch alongside her, one of them being Dr. Mathys. He was kind and patient enough to provide her with so much insight and necessary background info into series, that she decided to record a session discussing the various themes, particularities & problematic tropes as soon as the series ended.
It was also important to us (Dipsaus) that we had this talk with a black person as racism, racial politics and the current Black Lives Movement play a crucial role in this series. Watchmen is one of the many television shows and films that are coming out of Hollywood riding the BLM movement: for good or bad… like Dear White People, She's Gotta Have It, Queen & Slim, Seven Seconds etc.
